Officially Dr. Bearden!
In 2007, I started taking college courses while incarcerated. I had no idea where my life was heading, but those courses gave me something to direct my focus towards. While incarcerated, I decided I wanted to pursue a Ph.D. in Physics. I hadn’t even completed a calculus course, but I redirected all my focus towards academic success. Many years later, I am ending my academic journey with a doctorate.
I could not have made it this far without the help of family and friends. As I reflect on the mentors that offered guidance when I had little, I hope to provide guidance to others while remaining humble enough to still be guided myself. I am eager to begin my next journey, but taking the time to enjoy the moment. Thank you to everyone who played a role in my path from a GED to a Ph.D.
